ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

Marketing and Promotion:

Formed a committee to explore the feasibility of establishing a poultry-dressing plant in Connecticut. With a grant from the American Egg Board, we conducted omelet making demonstrations at Eastern States Exposition, co-sponsored a New Britain Herald Egg Dessert Baking Contest which reached 60,000 homes in central Connecticut; had egg promotion displays at: Woodstock Fair, Stamford Museum and Nature Center, University of Connecticut Cornucopia Festival, Connecticut Farm Bureau Annual Meeting and Ag Day at the Capitol and sent a Connecticut decorated egg to the White House Easter Egg display.

Poultry Health:

Gave a $1,500 DeCloux Research and Education Fund grant to University of Connecticut pathologist Dr. Mazhar Khan for In-ovo Infectious Bronchitis recombinant vaccine research. Supported the resumption of a regional poultry health and management conference. Contributed $150 for one unit of support for the Northeast Conference on Avian Diseases.

Legislative/Government Liaison:

Contacted Connecticut Senators Dodd and Liberman and Committee Chairman Kohl opposing proposed amendment S1191 that would restrict egg product purchases by the National School Lunch Program as to whether or not the producing flock had been induced to molt. Supported Senate bill S1397 that would ensure that the US Postal Service would still ship chicks by mail.

Youth Activities:

Gave a $1,000 Julius Flieschmann Scholarship to a University of Connecticut Animal Science student. Made a $300 donation to the University of Connecticut Poultry Science Club for their trip to the International Poultry Exposition. Supported one class of poultry at the Southern New England 4-H Poultry Show and Showmanship Contest with $25 contribution. Gave $100 to the Connecticut 4-H Development Foundation.

Research:

Successfully supported University of Connecticut Poultry Farm renovations and repairs.

Grower Support and Education:

Acted as a source of information for poultry companies interested in producing poultry and eggs in Connecticut. Contributed $400 to the New London County Agricultural Extension Council for Extension Poultry Programs in Connecticut.

Industry Support and Education:

Made a $100 contribution to the Connecticut Farm Bureau Annual Booster Campaign. Gave $100 to the Working Lands Alliance to help preserve Connecticut farms. Paid $50 dues to the Connecticut Agriculture and Natural Resource Association for the promotion of agriculture. Contributed $100 to the Animal Industry Foundation to educate consumers about U.S. animal agriculture and its contribution to the public's quality of life.
